Theresesgate 51 is a corner building covering 3136 square metres at the centre of Bislett on the west end of Oslo, between Bogstadveien and Grünerløkka. Carucel Eiendom administrates the entire building, with 5 commercial sections on the ground floor and 22 apartments in the upper storeys. This distinctive building was erected in 1900-01 for builder Holm Rom from Østre Aker, who resided at Stensgaten 7 at the time. The architect was Eduard Carlén. This property is a large corner building that serves as a key landmark in Bislett. It is made from polished brick and kept in a Neo-Baroque style.

Situation

Bislett is located in the St. Hanshaugen district in downtown Oslo, containing spots like Bislett Stadium and Bislet Bad. There are numerous cosy street cafés and restaurants here. Bislett is a commercial and residential area in the St. Hanshaugen district of Oslo.

Bislett was originally a field, Bisaalit, likely named after a tavern that was once situated there, with the name later being given to a spot by Pilestredet. It’s a traffic hub, with the city’s first roundabout. At Bislettløkka was Bislet Teglverk, which was purchased in 1898 to give the northwestern districts a playground and a place for sports. This was the beginning of the Bislett Idrettsplass sports hall, and after 1922, Bislett Stadium. Bislett Bad opened in 1920 with the city’s first swimming pool. In front of the building is Anders Svor’s sculpture Etter badet (“After the Bath”).

Bislett has large residential areas with apartment buildings from the 1870s-1890s and the 1920s-1930s. The area previously featured several industrial companies, such as Anker Batterifabrikk, Kristiania Brødfabrikk, Frydenlunds Bryggeri, and Conrad Langaards Tobakksfabrikk. The last two in particular gave the area its own scent, the Bislett smell, which was a mix of malt and tobacco. In the 1990s, the Frydenlunds factory complex and sections of Langaards were remodelled and put into use by the Oslo (and Akershus) University College.
